The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation into former Borsa Istanbul (BIST) chairman İbrahim Mustafa Turhan over social media posts alleged to be capable of creating fear and panic in the capital markets. The investigation came after BIST 100 lost more than 6%, triggering a circuit breaker.
In his post, Turhan argued that 'one must stay calm', saying he saw no structural risk. In a later statement, he said he meant a structural policy change, not a name change, but a systemic change. The investigation is ongoing.
