Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces Spokesperson Chris Magezi announced that they suspended defence and military cooperation with Türkiye "with immediate effect", and that the decision would remain in force until "unresolved issues" are addressed. Neither country's foreign ministry has issued a statement; according to reporting by Nefes, the decision followed a dispute over the extradition of blogger Fred Lumbuye.
While the reason for the decision was not announced, it is stated that the step is based on the dispute over the extradition of Fred Lumbuye, a critic of Uganda's President Museveni. The army's statement was shared from Chief of General Staff Muhoozi Kainerugaba's X account. No official statement came from the foreign ministries of the two countries.
