Türkiye's livestock numbers exceed EU countries

According to Eurostat and Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data, Türkiye's cattle population rose 4.3% in 2025 to 17,709,000, while France, first among EU countries, had 16,237,000. Türkiye's sheep population stands at 46,689,000 and goat population at 11,186,000.

In the EU in 2025, the number of cattle fell by 0.4%, sheep by 2.2% and goats by 2.5%. Türkiye's sheep stock was recorded at 46 million 689 thousand and goat stock at 11 million 186 thousand. Türkiye continues its leadership for a second year, after overtaking France in 2024.
