According to the August Agricultural Meteorology Bulletin by the General Directorate of Meteorology, 66 natural disasters of meteorological character occurred throughout the month, including 28 severe rainfall and flood events; 14 hail, 10 lightning, 8 landslide, 5 storm, and 1 tornado events were recorded.
Heavy rain and floods constituted 42 percent of the disasters. In Giresun, floods disrupted transportation, while in Malatya, homes and granaries were flooded. In August, an average of 16.2 kilograms of precipitation fell per square meter.
