CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı said party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's words that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is 'not a political prisoner' were misunderstood, and that İmamoğlu is detained for an ordinary crime.
At a press meeting at the party headquarters, Sarı evaluated Kılıçdaroğlu's statements in an interview given to Euronews Türkçe on September 8. He also claimed that some district mayors, provincial heads and deputies who switched to the New Party could return to CHP. İmamoğlu had previously reacted strongly to Kılıçdaroğlu's remarks.
