The Ministry of National Defence asked Greece to comply with its treaty obligations and to avoid militarizing the islands. It stated that cable laying on the continental shelf must be coordinated in advance and that measures have been taken against developments targeting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC).
At the weekly briefing, it was stated that cable or pipeline laying and scientific research on the continental shelf must be coordinated in advance. The submarine electricity cable planned to connect Greece, the Greek Cypriot Administration and Israel was mentioned in this context. It was noted that unauthorized activities are not permitted.
