The Defence Ministry (MSB) said it was closely monitoring Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's visit to Meis Island, stating that under the 1947 Paris Peace Treaty the island holds demilitarized status and the presence of military elements there does not contribute to peace and stability.
Aktürk said Türkiye will continue to protect its rights and interests with the authority derived from international law. The ministry invited Greece to refrain from activities incompatible with the demilitarised status on such islands. The statement also noted that 878 people were caught at the borders.
