Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told reporters during a visit to Syria that "Syria wants to live in peace" and warned Greece over defence cooperation with Israel. Daily Sabah reported that the deployment of the 51st Commando Brigade to Söke, Aydın, had become a topic of discussion in Greece.
Fidan said he met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa for about two hours and stressed the importance of lifting sanctions and removing Syria from the terrorism list. He also warned Greece against allying with those trying to destabilize the region.
