Syria

Syria, officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a Western Asian country located in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Levant. It is a unitary republic composed of 14 governorates, bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Türkiye to the north, Iraq to the east and southeast, Jordan to the south, and Israel and Lebanon to the southwest. Damascus is its capital and largest city.

Fidan: We would have no problem meeting Saudi Arabia's military needs

Following attacks the Houthis claimed on Riyadh and Red Sea energy facilities on Sept. 19, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan cited alliance duties in the Mecca Alliance, stating military needs in technical areas could be met. The US State Department warned the conflict could escalate rapidly.

Fidan responds to Mecca Alliance criticisms and joint planning group with Syria

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, speaking on NTV, described comments that the Mecca Alliance "remained on paper" as an effort to "discredit" it. Fidan said they were assigned to set up a joint planning group for Syrian dossiers, and stated no concrete step was taken in the disarmament process in northern Iraq.

Israel's UN representative targets Türkiye's military presence in Syria

Danny Danon, at the UN Security Council session on Syria, showed a map and said Israel's buffer zone covers 0.1% of Syrian territory while the area controlled by Türkiye covers 5%, and claimed that Türkiye was following "Iran's proxy strategy."

Fidan comments on Israel and Greece during Syria visit

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told reporters during a visit to Syria that "Syria wants to live in peace" and warned Greece over defence cooperation with Israel. Daily Sabah reported that the deployment of the 51st Commando Brigade to Söke, Aydın, had become a topic of discussion in Greece.
