President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement was not an alliance formed against Iran and Israel. Erdoğan described the agreement as an expression of shared responsibility for a safer future.
Answering Newsweek's questions, Erdoğan said the Russia-Ukraine War continues in the north and there are conflicts in the south and east. He stated that the priority at the UN General Assembly is preventing the spread of conflicts and keeping diplomatic channels open. He said the United Nations must not fall behind change and called for a more representative Security Council.
