President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Türkiye continues its contacts with Russia and Ukraine for the safety of civilian shipping in the Black Sea. Erdoğan, in a statement to Newsweek, said a permanent security mechanism should be established.
In an interview with Newsweek, Erdoğan said dialogue with both sides continues so that civilian shipping, trade routes and energy infrastructure stay out of the conflict. Saying Ankara is ready to contribute to ending the conflict, Erdoğan stressed that reports of possible sabotage in Europe must be carefully verified and steps that would cause escalation must be avoided.
