The Interior Ministry began informing licensed gun owners by SMS in an initial 7 provinces to store their weapons in locked places out of children's reach after security incidents at schools.
On the instructions of Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, warning messages were sent to licence holders in Elazığ, Manisa, Giresun, Muğla, Ardahan, Burdur and Mersin under provincial coordination. The messages asked that guns be kept in locked places inaccessible to children and unauthorised persons. Written notification was also introduced for new and renewal applications in 4 provinces.
