Under the legislation of the energy regulator EPDK, old-type electricity meters in buildings in 81 provinces are being removed and replaced with remotely communicating smart meters. The era of manual meter reading is gradually ending.
The transformation, which gained pace with the regulation that entered into force on 1 March 2026, is targeted for completion by 2028. Advanced smart meters will be installed at addresses with annual consumption above 10 megawatt-hours.
