Court of Cassation

The Court of Cassation is one of Türkiye's three high judicial bodies and is the final review authority for decisions and verdicts rendered by first-instance courts of criminal and civil jurisdiction. It was founded in 1868. The President of the Court of Cassation is Ömer Kerkez.

The 4th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation (Yargıtay) ruled that whether an insult on social media counts as public must be decided by examining both whether the account was open to everyone and how many people the post could reach.

Death of worker suffering heart attack at company tournament ruled work accident

S.Ö., who suffered a heart attack during an artificial-turf football tournament organized by his employer, passed away after approximately three months of medical treatment; the Social Security Institution (SGK) recorded the incident as a workplace accident. The fault allocation determined in the family's compensation lawsuit was re-evaluated by the Court of Cassation (Yargıtay).

The Court of Cassation's 2nd Civil Chamber found unlawful the ruling by the Bakırköy 13th Family Court that awarded poverty alimony to a retired woman with a regular income whose income level was close to her spouse's; the divorce ruling itself was upheld.

Court of Cassation: calling spouse a "donkey, animal" constitutes an attack on personal rights

The Court of Cassation's 2nd Civil Chamber ruled that a husband who called his wife "eşeksin, hayvansın" ("you're a donkey, you're an animal") was at fault, finding the words constituted an attack on personal rights and that the wife must be paid material and moral compensation.

CHP spokesperson Sarı: No legal obstacle remains before the congress
