The 2nd Civil Chamber of the Turkish Court of Cassation (Yargıtay) ruled in a case filed by the woman after a couple's engagement ended that gifts beyond the usual can be reclaimed.
In its decision, the high court said fault is not sought in returning gifts when an engagement ends, and that gold, jewelry and ornaments other than the engagement ring count as beyond-usual gifts. Reassessing the case, the chamber upheld the family court's return order.
