Press organizations, including the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association, MLSA and the Progressive Journalists Association, criticized arrests carried out over news content and access blocks imposed by a decision of Istanbul 7th Criminal Court of Peace on September 12.
The statement criticised the arrest of journalist Tuğba Tekerek over a single news report on the LGBT+ movement in Georgia. It was stated that this situation shows that journalism in the field of human rights is subject to criminal investigations. The court decision of 12 September imposed access blocks on the websites kaosgl.org, Velvele and ÜniKuir as well as numerous social media accounts.
