In the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's "Price journey from field to market" investigation, 40 distributor company managers who were detained were arrested, while 1 suspect remains at large. Bianet, citing Central Bank (TCMB) studies, reported that many factors including intermediaries, costs and weather conditions play a role in high prices.
As part of the operation, searches were conducted at 109 locations in 22 provinces, and statements were taken from 1,029 farmers. Reports from the Competition Authority and the Trade Ministry are being examined. Experts say that in addition to intermediaries, costs and weather conditions are also effective in price increases.
