At its meeting on September 15-16, 2026, the committee, citing rulings by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), called on Türkiye to ensure the "immediate release" of former HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ. It also requested clarification on whether the new law covers applicants in the Demirtaş case file.
The Committee asked for clarification on whether the law passed by Parliament covers all applicants in the Demirtaş case. It requested information on the procedure for implementing the law, the envisaged consequences, and the process for its entry into force. It recalled the obligation of member states to comply with decisions under Article 46 of the ECHR.
