Latest in the series Şener Üşümezsoy's 2023 Bozova warning back after quake
Following the magnitude 5.4 earthquake in Şanlıurfa, Prof. Dr. Hasan Sözbilir said the Bozova Fault has the potential to produce earthquakes up to magnitude 7.
Sözbilir, director of Dokuz Eylül University's Earthquake Research and Application Center, said the earthquake's epicenter was at the eastern end of the Bozova Fault and that the tremor could be assessed as activity triggered by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes of 6 February 2023. In the Türkiye Active Fault Map updated in 2026, the fault is defined as an active fault 55 kilometres long.
