Prof. Dr. Rüstem Hayat of the Isparta University of Applied Sciences (ISUBÜ) named a newly discovered fly species after his son Abdullah, who died aged 1 twenty-eight years ago. The species was introduced to science as 'Orthonevra abdullahi'.
The fly, which plays a role in plant pollination, was described from specimens collected from high areas around Erzurum. The new species was announced in an article published in September this year in the journal 'Zoologischer Anzeiger'.
