Şener Üşümezsoy's 2023 Bozova warning back after quake

The 5.4-magnitude earthquake that hit Karaköprü district of Şanlıurfa on 24 September brought Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy's 2023 fault assessments back into focus. Üşümezsoy had at that time drawn attention to the Bozova Fault south of the Atatürk Dam.

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 7 kilometres and was also felt in Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Adıyaman and Malatya. In his statements on 31 March 2023, Üşümezsoy had said stress could build up on faults in the region and that the Bozova Fault should be monitored.
