Minister Tekin: Mid-term breaks may be removed in years when calendar does not fit

Education Ministry (MEB) Minister Yusuf Tekin stated that mid-term breaks could be abolished in years when schedules are tight due to the 180-school-day requirement. Tekin noted the current policy will continue for now since mid-term breaks coincide with public holidays.

Minister Tekin: Mid-term breaks could be scrapped in years when the calendar doesn't fit

Education Minister Yusuf Tekin said on a television broadcast that they try to align mid-term breaks with the Ramadan and Sacrifice holidays, and that in years when the calendar does not align, mid-term breaks could be scrapped. Tekin noted that under regulations, students must attend school for 180 working days.

Minister Tekin: We preferred the smock system for teachers

Education Minister Yusuf Tekin said on a CNN Türk broadcast that there was an option of either requiring compliance with dress-code regulations or the use of smocks, and that they preferred the smock. Tekin also commented on mobile phones in classrooms, school registrations and PISA results.
