Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that as Iraq implements its roadmap to disarm armed groups, Türkiye could gradually reduce and end its military presence at the Bashiqa Base.
Fidan told a press conference around the 81st UN General Assembly in New York that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi at the Türkevi. They discussed elements in Sinjar handing over weapons to the Iraqi state. He added that a package proposed by Iran on opening the Strait of Hormuz had not yet produced results.
